ASHRAE published the latest version in October 2013, but many states will adopt the 2010 standard. The standard, which applies to new construction and major renovations (including requirements for lamp-ballast retrofits), is updated every three years. The Department of Energy recognizes the 2010 version as the national energy reference standard, and the International Energy Conservation Code recognizes 90.1 as an alternate compliance standard. ASHRAE/IES Standard 90.1 provides states and other jurisdictions a model commercial building energy code.
